ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHERS

HENRI LOUBSER

Henri studied Chemical Engineering at Stellenbosch University near Cape Town, South Africa and worked for Sasol, the largest of South Africa’s petro-chemical companies for 34 years.  He retired at the end of 2015.

Photography has been a hobby ever since he could afford his first Nikon FE2, but it became a serious hobby with the worldwide change to digital photography. Henri’s passion for nature and all places far, hot and dusty has him taking a few bush safaris every year, which provides good opportunity for wildlife & nature photography.

Henri switched from Nikon to Sony mirrorless in 2021 and uses the Sony A7RIV and A9II bodies with a Sony 200 – 600 mm and shorter lenses for most of his wildlife images. He is also still keen on his Nikon D4 with his 600 mm F4 lens.

Henri is an avid mountain biker when he is not travelling.

MELANIE LOUBSER

Melanie met Henri at the University of Stellenbosch where they studied together. As she has always shared her husband’s passion for the veld, it became increasingly difficult to fit bush safaris into two demanding careers.

In 2004 Melanie decided to make a lifestyle change and gave up her 22 year corporate career. She ran her own consulting business as a Pay & Benefits Consultant from her home office for 10 years until the end of 2014.  An earlier interest in web design and administration now keeps her busy when they are at home on the game farm they live on.

Melanie’s equipment is the same as Henri’s. She also switched from Nikon to Sony mirrorless in 2021 and uses the Sony A7RIV and A9II bodies with a Sony 200 – 600 mm and shorter lenses for most of her wildlife images.

Melanie cycles with Henri and uses an e-bike to keep up with him!
